City, Chamber and others partner to hold affordable housing forum Posted on 8/10/2012
A forum next week will bring together developers, City and County leadership as well as experienced professionals to continue addressing the area's biggest concern - affordable housing.
The Souris Basin Affordable Housing Forum will feature topics on what it takes to make housing affordable, the local initiatives currently underway as well as a review of current inventory. The forum has been organized by a variety of local, statewide and federal partners, including the City of Minot as well as the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce and the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency.
The five-hour forum will include presentations from more than 10 different groups and time for discussion on the next steps to take in attracting additional affordable housing to the Minot region. The Housing Forum also has the dual purpose of educating local and statewide policy makers as well as providing interested developers a chance to see and understand the need for affordable living space in Minot and the surrounding region.
The Souris Basin Affordable Housing Forum is being held on the campus of Minot State University at the Aleshire Theater in Hartnett Hall on Tuesday, August 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interested media is encouraged to attend at any point in the forum. The afternoon session, starting at 1 p.m., will be given by local community leaders as they will outline housing plans, identify area challenges and opportunities for affordable housing developments.
